Comparative study of earthquake disaster management in 2 countries of Essay

Comparative study of earthquake disaster management in 2 countries of Iran and Japan - Essay Example Iran could get a few pointers from the way Japan handles earthquake disasters. Foremost in the list is the means of predicting earthquakes. Due to Iran’s lack of apparent resources and technology, its prediction system is inaccurate and inefficient. Japan’s history with earthquakes coupled with its technological and financial prowess has greatly improved its early warning system. Mapping of critical areas and danger zones would be useful given Iran’s situation. City and building planning could also see Japan as an example. Iran’s relative poverty to Japan means it is harder to control city populations and habitat management. Life line resources particularly water should also be given priority particularly in Iran’s already arid climate. Japan has seen to it that rehabilitation of areas hit with earthquakes avoids mistakes that may have happened and intended to surpass post quake productivity and status. Rehabilitation of hit areas in Iran should sta rt as with Japan’s example, from planning, and then adequate construction methods. Japan’s emphasis on building design in relation to earthquakes has prevented maximum damage and improved safety during succeeding quakes. The emphasis on durable material as well as efficient building design has avoided additional casualties from fires and collapse. Japan’s forethought and analysis of events and factors regarding earthquakes as well as their systematic reaction to these factors have helped make Japan foremost in Earthquake management. Iran, facing the same threat would do well to learn from its Asian neighbor and attempt to adopt its protocols and procedures.

Cloud Computing Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 3750 words

Cloud Computing - Essay Example Cloud computing is arguably the most popular emergent computing paradigm of the last decade (Hayes, 2009) and a technology at the peak of the Gartner hype cycle (Schonfeld, 2008). Cloud Computing aims at reducing the costs associated with management of hardware and software resources by shifting the computing infrastructure from on-site to on-network through the use of a variety of technologies that offer everything as a service under what could be generalized as â€Å"XaaS† (Rimal et al., 2009). X here could refer to software, platform, hardware, infrastructure, database, business, framework, organization and so on. One of the major challenges for the proponents of cloud computing has been to clear the confusion over the definition of cloud computing. Geelan (2009) analysed definitions from 21 cloud computing experts and none of them provided a unified definition as they all seemed to focus on different aspects of the cloud. To remove confusion with regards to what the cloud is in this research, we shall use the definition proposed by Vaquero et al. (2009) in this paper. Vaquero et al. (2009) built upon the work of Geelan (2009) and additional definitions from other experts to arrive at the definition below: Clouds are a large pool of easily usable and accessible virtualized resources (such as hardware, development platforms and/or services). These resources can be dynamically re-configured to adjust to a variable load (scale), allowing also for an optimum resource utilization. This pool of resources is typically exploited by a pay-per-use model in which guarantees are offered by the Infrastructure Provider by means of customized Service Level Agreements (SLAs) (Vaquero et al., 2009, p.51). ... Pros and Cons of Cloud Computing To appreciate the advantages of cloud computing and to analyse its disadvantages we have to first comprehend the different modes of delivery of this new paradigm. Each of these forms of delivery offers different advantages and disadvantages to different businesses. Cloud computing allows delivery of computing resources as services in the form of Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS) or Software as a Service (SaaS) depending on the level of abstraction that the client desires. 2.1. Infrastructure as a service Under IaaS, instead of

Essay Example it as well; there are times when it helps man and other times when it becomes man’s enemy because it replaces the personal input he would have in his work otherwise. Man becomes divorced from his own work, while some even lose their livelihood to these machines as well. John Paul II further went onto state that it turns man into nothing but a slave. The late pope called for more harmony between workers in this section. It was the pope’s point of view that capitalism and labor were at odds with each other and this conflict was born from the industrial developments that took place in the western world. This conflict illustrated itself in the values found in liberalism and Marxism. He places more emphasis on the importance of labor than capital. He sees labor as essential to driving work, where as capital is only a mere tool. He also talks about property and the church’s stand on the principle of right. Here, the church disagrees not just with Marxist ideas that promote collectivism, but also the liberalistic ideas of capitalism. Human rights that come within the circumference of one’s work are the very basic rights that are allotted to a person. The Pope outlined unemployment as a great social problem, which didn’t just break down the social fabric through economics, but also perpetuated weak morality. He wrote against one-sided centralization by the authorities that left many out of jobs. He referred to agricultural work and how it had its own dignified way. Work has to be organized in a way that suits a person and their life. Demographics need to be taken into account such as a person’s age and gender etc. Women, according to John Paul II, should be allotted jobs that fit them without prejudice; but they must avail jobs without creating problems for their families. He also emphasized on the importance of perks and benefits, along with time off from work so that workers do not burn out. Unions are of the utmost importance because they can ensure that

Juvenile Trials - Assignment Example In contrast, all the court proceedings in adult criminal trial are different. A juvenile justice system is primarily made under the assumption that juveniles are developmentally different from adults and their behaviour is pliable. Juvenile records are sealed documents restricted to public access and even their hearings are not done in public. Whereas criminal records are kept for public access and it is necessary that all the court proceedings are open to public. The juvenile offenders are put on hearing rather than a trial unlike defendants in the criminal justice system who are put on trial based on legal facts. Although the court takes action in the child’s best interest, generally juvenile trials are not the best way to handle juvenile offenders in most of the cases. The juvenile who undergoes trial lives a life of solitude thereafter. â€Å"Labelling theory states that once young people are labelled as criminals, they are more likely to offend.† (Juvenile delinquency). On the other hand, the researcher is also considered an important instrument in a qualitative research and some of the roles of a researcher include gathering data as well as interacting and collaborating with the participants in the research (Brown, 1996). This paper describes the results of my personal observation of a photograph in correlation to the roles of context, bias and the research during a qualitative research study. Description of the results The results of my observation suggested that the photo requires a qualitative analysis to capture all the required qualitative data and any non-numerical information that a company can use in performance analysis. The use of qualitative data to support businesses in decision-making provides a business with the detailed picture of the performance of individuals. The use of qualitative research by Health Plus creates openness in the organization (Creswell, 1994).
